Beautiful Resume Designs
6 March 2008
You want your resume to stand out, right? To be different from the rest–but tastefully so. You’re going to avoid any templates in your word processing software, of course. And then you’ll want to seek some inspiration.
Here are 36 designs that truly stand out. They might not fit for your intended job, but at the very least they’ll give you something to aim for. A few things to note:
- None use Times New Roman
- They all use white space intentionally
- They’re all very clean, simple, and easy to read
- They have good contrast (dark headlines vs. gray body text)
- It’s clear, even at a distance, who the applicant is–the name is L-A-R-G-E

I read a really good article yesterday by Seth Godin, one of the best on and offline marketers and actually someone you have on your blogroll…
He said this:
So I guess the question is, do you really need a “Beautiful Resume Design” to cover up for your lack of effectiveness or are you just asking to get rejected by taking lots of time to “stand out from the rest” who will probably get hired over you? Just wondered…
If you think you are “remarkable, amazing or just plain spectacular”, likely you are not.
Unless you are talking to someone who knows you and your reputation, and who can make a decision him or herself, you need a resume. So in 99% of the cases, you will need a resume at some point, even if it’s just to fill in the details to the message that you’ve already sold them on in your meeting or interview.
These designs are nice, and a good counterpoint to the “fill in the blanks and we’ll generate your resume” approaches.
Steve is right. Seth was talking about candidates who are demonstrating their tremendous skill publicly. They will have people bending over backwards to get them for their talent, but few people are able to put themselves into that kind of situation (assuming they want to, of course).
For everyone else, resume/CV/some sort of bio will always be necessary to bring other people up to speed about you in a very quick way.
Incidentally, I recently posted another back of beautiful resumes:
