Farewell, Randy Pausch
26 July 2008
Randy Pausch, who taught computer science and virtual reality modeling at Carnegie Mellon University, died of pancreatic cancer yesterday. And odds are, you probably know that. If you do, it is because of a remarkable presentation he gave last year as part of CMU’s “Last Lecture” series. Speakers were asked, “If you had one last lecture to give before you died, what would you tell your students?” Somewhat ironically, Randy had already received the fatal prognosis prior to the time of his presentation.
If you haven’t seen Randy’s talk, entitled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams,” set aside the 76 minutes it will take to view it. It is inspiring, encouraging, funny, hopeful, and showcases the value of intentional living.
