Jargon is Insecurity

We continually expedite world-class catalysts for change.

What the heck does that mean?

Nothing.

I got it from The Corporate B.S. Generator.

But it just as easily could have come from a dozen—or a thousand—business websites.

Jargon and insider language are a HUGE problem for businesses.

The bigger the industry, the more jargon they throw around.

If you use jargon and insider language on your website, though, you’re turning away potential customers.

How?

Jargon scares people

When they see terms they don’t understand, it makes them feel stupid.

They think, “I guess this isn’t for me.” And then they look to your competitors for a solution to their problems in words they’ll understand.

The fix is easy:

  1. Stop using jargon

  2. Start writing conversationally, like you’re speaking with an actual person

When you do that, you’re more likely to connect with your customers.

And you’ll show them you’re different from all your competitors—whose websites and emails are still full of jargon.

Is jargon scaring away your potential customers?
